This compatibilist view appeals to me in that it has a balance between determinism and absolute free will, but I dislike the idea that the only distinction between the two is the individual's perception of themselves. With Susan Wolf there were identifiable conditions that determined free will and therefore responsibility, but this leaves the choice up to the individual. To me that seems like a good way to encourage people to only take responsibility for the good things in their lives.
